November 28, 2012 Update: Toronto City Council endorses the nomination of Malala Yousafzai for a Nobel Peace Prize.
I have endorsed the nomination of Malala Yousafzai for the Nobel Peace Prize. Equal access has long been recognized as a critical pillar in building a free and thriving society. Malala’s commitment to her own education and to promoting education for girls, in the face of extremism and oppression is a testament to her spirit, her dedication, and her resilience.
Malala represents the countless young girls in Pakistan and around the world who are unwilling to accept the denial of their basic human rights. Attending school and promoting girls’ access to education should not need to be an act of courage, and yet for Malala her advocacy threatened her life. Her refusal to give in deserves recognition from the world community, and we should demonstrate strongly that we stand behind her.
Malala Yousafzai has united citizens from nations around the world in the spirit of peace and equality. I need you to take action to sign the petition and take time to engage your friends, family and neighbours to make this possible.
