Notice of Commencement of Transit Project Assessment Process

The City, Metrolinx and TTC are working together to bring more transit to communities across the City. To achieve this, we are looking at ways to improve the connectivity of the transit network through the introduction of new SmartTrack stations.

The City of Toronto’s SmartTrack concept proposes using the Metrolinx GO network to provide additional and more frequent transit service in the City of Toronto. Within Toronto, six (6) new SmartTrack stations are planned for the Stouffville/Lakeshore East and Kitchener corridors.

The City and Metrolinx, as co-proponents, are completing a Transit Project Assessment Process (TPAP) under Ontario Regulation 231/08 to assess the potential environmental impacts of the new SmartTrack stations. The TPAP Notice of Commencement is being issued today.

We thank everyone for their feedback to-date. As we formally commence the TPAP, we continue to encourage members of the public, regulatory agencies, Indigenous communities and other interested persons to actively participate in the TPAP by visiting the project websites or contacting either the City or Metrolinx directly with information, comments or questions. Your participation is an important part of this process and we welcome your input.
